National Forest Closures and Information

  • by

It has been announced that all National Forests in California will be completely closed, starting August 31st at 11:59PM, through September 17th at 11:59PM.

Here’s the official post: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/r5/news-events/?cid=FSEPRD949139

This order effectively closes a lot of California’s SOTA summits.

For a visual reference, Michael KM6WCO put together a map showing SOTA summits and National Forest boundaries: https://bit.ly/w6NFmap

And Mike N6MST put together a handy spreadsheet of all W6 summits in National Forests: https://bit.ly/w6NFsummits

As of this posting (August 31st), no other federal or state agencies have followed suit, so summits in National Parks and State Parks are likely still open.

As part of your planning, you should always check with the governing agency you’d like to visit before assuming they’re open.

73, and be safe out there!
